Base Power Brings Innovative Home Energy Model to Houston, Accelerating Statewide Growth
Base Power, the only Texas-based energy provider that integrates home backup power directly into its service plans, has officially announced its launch in the City of Houston. This marks a major step in the company’s rapid expansion, bringing its unique approach to affordable, reliable, and resilient home energy to one of the nation’s most significant energy hubs.
A New Kind of Home Energy Plan
Base Power offers a first-of-its-kind, all-in-one energy plan designed around resiliency. At the core of the plan is a whole-home backup battery, which is included as part of the energy service. Unlike many traditional systems that require solar panels to function, Base’s solution works without solar—though it is fully compatible with homes that already have rooftop solar systems installed.
When the electric grid experiences an outage, the battery automatically takes over and powers the home, ensuring continuity in essential services. Families don’t have to worry about losing heating, cooling, refrigeration, or critical medical devices during blackouts. This simple, integrated approach eliminates the large upfront costs usually associated with backup systems, while still delivering peace of mind.
What makes the Base model especially innovative is the way it aligns homeowner benefits with grid reliability. Instead of relying solely on customer payments to cover system costs, Base generates revenue by providing services back to the electric grid. These services support grid stability, and in turn, homeowners enjoy reliable backup power at a more affordable rate. This model not only protects individual households but also strengthens Texas’ broader energy infrastructure.
Houston: The Energy Capital, Tested by Outages

Dell’s words highlight the paradox of Houston’s energy identity. The city is home to some of the world’s leading energy companies and infrastructure, but residents have also experienced repeated power crises in recent years, most notably during Winter Storm Uri in 2021. These outages underscored the urgent need for household-level resiliency solutions that can bridge gaps when the grid falters.
By entering Houston, Base is positioning itself as both a service provider and a long-term partner in strengthening the city’s energy resilience.
Expanding Protection: Generator Recharge Port
In tandem with the Houston launch, Base is also introducing a new feature: the Generator Recharge Port. This addition allows homeowners with portable generators to plug directly into the Base battery system. The generator can then either power the entire home or recharge the battery during extended outages.
This functionality creates a powerful combination of resources—battery storage for seamless, quiet, automatic protection during short-term outages, and generator integration for extended blackouts. Together, they can provide multi-day protection for households. The Recharge Port will be available as an optional add-on for new and future Base installations, giving Houston homeowners even greater flexibility.
Statewide Growth and Partnerships
Houston is the latest market in Base’s fast-growing Texas footprint. The company already serves thousands of homeowners across the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex and counties north of Austin. Its growth has been accelerated by a strong partnership with Lennar, one of the nation’s largest homebuilders, which has brought Base systems into new residential communities at scale.
Base has also forged important collaborations with utilities including GVEC and Bandera Electric Cooperative, demonstrating how its distributed battery systems can be used not only to protect homeowners but also to enhance grid resiliency for entire regions. These partnerships represent a new model for how utilities and private companies can work together to ensure reliable power in a rapidly changing energy landscape.
To date, Base has raised over $270 million from leading investors. This funding is being used to expand operations, deploy more systems, and reinforce the Texas grid at a time when extreme weather events and surging energy demand are testing the limits of traditional infrastructure.
Building a Local Presence in Houston
To support its Houston expansion, Base has opened a new office and warehouse in Katy, on the western edge of the metro area. The company has already built a local team of more than 30 employees, with plans for further hiring as demand continues to grow.
Base’s partnership with Lennar is also expanding into Houston. The company is now serving 20 residential communities across the metro area, including Sunterra, The Grand Prairie, and Anniston. These communities represent the growing demand among homebuyers for houses equipped with reliable, future-ready energy systems.
