Baker Hughes to Deliver Integrated Completions for Petrobras Offshore
Baker Hughes (NASDAQ: BKR), a leading energy technology company, announced a significant, multi-year contract with Petrobras on Thursday. This deal involves the provision of fully integrated completion systems for Petrobras’ offshore deepwater fields. The contract follows a competitive open tender and will see the deployment of Baker Hughes’ innovative completions technology portfolio and its extensive expertise in Brazil to enhance production across multiple offshore fields.
Baker Hughes has developed a comprehensive range of technologies tailored specifically to meet the unique challenges of Petrobras’ offshore operations. These technologies include advanced intelligent completions, conventional upper and lower completions, and a suite of systems designed to optimize remote operations and multizone control. By limiting water and gas breakthroughs and reducing the need for costly interventions, these solutions aim to improve the overall efficiency of Petrobras’ offshore production.
“Deepwater, high-pressure wells demand a level of reliability that is second to none. Our completion technologies have been proven to perform in these challenging environments,” said Amerino Gatti, Executive Vice President of Oilfield Services & Equipment at Baker Hughes. “Through continuous innovation, rigorous testing, and close collaboration with Petrobras, we have developed new approaches to help Brazil’s energy sector safely and efficiently tap into its natural resources for years to come.”

As part of the agreement, Petrobras will implement several cutting-edge Baker Hughes technologies, including the SureCONTROL Premium interval control valve (ICV). The SureCONTROL valve is specifically designed for high-flow rate environments like those found in Petrobras’ offshore fields. This technology enhances the reliability and control of well operations, allowing operators to make real-time, remote adjustments across multiple zones, improving both operational safety and production efficiency.
In addition to the SureCONTROL valve, Petrobras will deploy a wide range of other Baker Hughes completions technologies. These include SureSENS QPT ELITE downhole gauges, the SureSENS B-Annulus monitoring system, SureTREAT chemical injection systems, the Sur-Set flow control system, Orbit Premium barrier valves, a gas lift system, REACH subsurface safety valves, DeepShield subsurface safety valves, Premier packers, screens, and a gravel pack system.
Baker Hughes’ partnership with Petrobras is part of a long-standing commitment to the development of Brazil’s offshore oil and gas fields. Over the years, Baker Hughes has been a key player in supporting the growth of Brazil’s energy industry, providing the country with advanced technologies and expertise to boost its energy production capacity. Through its localization strategy, Baker Hughes also contributes to Brazil’s economy by supporting local job creation and strengthening the national energy supply chain.
Delivery of the integrated completion systems under the new contract is scheduled to begin in late 2025. This will mark another milestone in the ongoing collaboration between Baker Hughes and Petrobras to develop and manage Brazil’s offshore oil resources in a safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible manner.
Baker Hughes continues to drive innovation in the energy sector, offering solutions that make energy production safer, cleaner, and more efficient. With operations in over 120 countries, the company’s technologies and services help address some of the world’s most pressing energy challenges.
