Avangrid Reaches Landmark 80th Power Generation Project, Underscoring Its National Energy Leadership
Avangrid, Inc., a prominent energy company and a key member of the Iberdrola Group, has reached a significant milestone in its journey toward advancing clean and reliable energy solutions across the United States. The company announced the successful commissioning of its 80th power generation facility, marking a major achievement in its ongoing mission to meet America’s rising energy needs and accelerate the transition to a sustainable future.
This milestone reflects Avangrid’s growing footprint in the U.S. energy landscape. Operating across 23 states, the company now delivers clean power to millions of homes and businesses coast-to-coast. In just the past six months, Avangrid brought three major solar projects online in Texas, Ohio, and California, adding nearly 600 megawatts (MW) of new capacity to the grid—enough electricity to power over 100,000 homes. These accomplishments underscore the company’s ability to rapidly develop and deploy renewable energy infrastructure at a time of surging demand and growing interest in energy resilience.
A Nationwide Energy Provider
“For over two decades, Avangrid has been delivering energy to homes and businesses across the nation, and today that portfolio has grown to 80 facilities spanning from coast to coast,” said Jose Antonio Miranda, CEO of Avangrid. “Achieving this milestone comes at a critical time as we work to bring new energy capacity online to meet growing electricity demand from a variety of sources, particularly the construction of new data centers.”
Miranda emphasized that the milestone demonstrates the company’s long-standing commitment to addressing grid challenges through innovation, collaboration, and investment. “In just the past six months, Avangrid has achieved commercial operation at three new projects, demonstrating our ability to meet the needs of our customers and bring needed capacity to increasingly strained electric grids. We will continue to collaborate with our partners as we work to secure American energy independence and support jobs and economic growth across the U.S.”
Recent Solar Projects Powering Growth
Avangrid’s latest round of power projects highlights its strong momentum in the renewable sector:
- True North Solar Project (Falls County, Texas): Reaching commercial operation in March 2025, this 321 MWdc facility is one of the largest in Avangrid’s portfolio and is instrumental in powering Meta’s expanding operations, including a major new data center in Temple, TX.
- Camino Solar Project (Kern County, California): This 57 MWdc solar facility began operations in June 2025. It adds valuable capacity to California’s clean energy mix and contributes to regional reliability.
- Powell Creek Solar Project (Putnam County, Ohio): Also beginning operations in June 2025, this 202 MWdc project further demonstrates Avangrid’s ability to deliver large-scale renewable assets in key markets with strong demand growth.
Combined, these projects contribute nearly 600 MW of solar energy to the grid, aligning with state and federal goals to decarbonize the energy sector while improving grid resilience.
Broad Economic and Social Impacts
Avangrid’s reach extends beyond energy production. The company’s 80 operational power generation projects are creating lasting economic benefits in the communities where they operate. In 2024 alone:
- More than 12,000 jobs were supported, including direct, indirect, and induced employment related to Avangrid’s power generation operations.
- Avangrid contributed $112 million in taxes to state and local governments, helping fund public services, schools, and infrastructure.
- The company paid $97 million in lease payments to landowners hosting renewable projects, providing a stable source of rural income.
- An additional $2.1 million was directed to community support, reinforcing Avangrid’s role as a responsible corporate citizen.
Furthermore, Avangrid’s supply chain initiatives are strengthening American manufacturing and service industries. In 2024, the company spent approximately $4.3 billion with U.S.-based suppliers, contractors, and partners—underscoring its commitment to domestic investment and economic development.
Regional Spotlight: Pacific Northwest
The Pacific Northwest is one of Avangrid’s most important regions for both operations and innovation. In Oregon and Washington, the company operates about 3 gigawatts (GW) of generating capacity and employs around 500 people. This region is also home to key corporate facilities, including Avangrid’s National Control Center and National Training Center, which support operations nationwide.
In recognition of the company’s contributions to the region, several leaders praised Avangrid’s longstanding presence and economic impact.
“For many years, Avangrid has been a valuable member of Oregon’s business community and has played an important role in providing Oregonians with reliable energy,” said Angela Wilhelms, president and CEO of Oregon Business and Industry.
Echoing this sentiment, Spencer Gray, executive director of the Northwest & Intermountain Power Producers Coalition, noted, “Avangrid has been a leader in the energy industry in the Northwest for many years, with a talented local workforce, innovative operations, and competitive solutions for power customers around the country. I congratulate Avangrid on reaching this milestone and continuing its track record of excellence as an independent power generator.”
In Oregon and Washington alone, the company paid nearly $30 million in taxes last year, directly supporting local government and infrastructure.
Supporting the Energy Needs of the Digital Age
With the rise of data centers and artificial intelligence driving electricity consumption to new heights, the demand for clean, reliable power is accelerating across the country. Avangrid is positioning itself as a central player in helping meet this growing demand.
The company already provides approximately 1.5 gigawatts (GW) of capacity to support data center operations and has another 650 MW in the pipeline—either under construction or nearing groundbreaking.
These efforts are part of a broader strategy to ensure the grid is equipped to handle the 21st-century economy. As companies, governments, and communities seek carbon-free energy to power digital infrastructure, Avangrid’s scalable and diversified portfolio is increasingly vital.
