Factors such as urban growth, electrification of transportation, and, most notably, the rapid expansion of data centers and artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure have created unprecedented strain on the national grid.

A Coast-to-Coast Energy Network
Avangrid’s national footprint is expansive. The company operates more than 80 power plants across the United States, with a combined energy generation capacity exceeding 10.5 gigawatts (GW). These facilities range from large-scale solar and wind farms to conventional power stations, enabling a balanced energy mix that supports both sustainability goals and grid stability.
The first half of 2025 saw notable growth in solar power generation for Avangrid. Earlier this year, the company brought three new solar projects into commercial operation in Texas, California, and Ohio. Collectively, these sites represent about 600 megawatts (MW) of additional capacity, directly contributing to a 125% increase in solar output compared to the same period in 2024. To address this, Avangrid has five additional projects under construction, collectively representing nearly 700 MW of future capacity.
