Avangrid Foundation Supports 89 U.S. Charities in 2024
The Avangrid Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Avangrid Inc., a leading energy company and a member of the Iberdrola Group, has announced its support of 89 charitable organizations across the United States in 2024. The foundation’s work is centered on creating a sustainable, equitable future, and this milestone reflects its continued commitment to improving communities and promoting positive change nationwide.
“Another exceptional year for the Avangrid Foundation. I am proud of everything they have accomplished in collaboration with our partner organizations across the country,” said Pedro Azagra, CEO of Avangrid. “As a company, our purpose is to foster healthier and more sustainable communities every day. This is yet another example of how we are improving the lives of the people we work with and serve.”
The Avangrid Foundation’s philanthropic efforts are rooted in four key Pillars of Giving, which guide the foundation’s mission to create lasting positive impacts:
- Social Action: Focuses on sustainable development and human rights, aiming to reduce poverty and enhance the quality of life for disadvantaged, underserved, or at-risk individuals.
- Education and Research: Promotes equitable access to education across the U.S. and supports the advancement of scientific research to build sustainable communities in the future.
- Biodiversity: Champions environmental sustainability and strives to increase biodiversity.
- Arts and Culture: Encourages the growth of arts, heritage, and culture to support vibrant, sustainable communities, particularly by providing access to these resources for disadvantaged populations.
In 2024, the Avangrid Foundation worked alongside several well-known national organizations, such as the American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, Feeding America, Kids in Need Foundation, Ronald McDonald House Charities, and the Trust for Public Land. Additionally, the foundation partnered with local nonprofits within its service and operating areas, including the Urban League of Rochester (NY) and Preble Street of Portland (ME).
“We collaborate closely with our partner organizations each year to identify projects for funding that will have a tangible, positive impact in the communities we serve,” said Pablo Colón, Executive Director of the Avangrid Foundation and Director of Corporate Citizenship at Avangrid. “I’m incredibly proud of the work our nonprofit partners do every day to address critical needs nationwide, and we are thrilled to be part of their meaningful efforts in promoting thriving communities.”
One of the cornerstone initiatives of the Avangrid Foundation is its Energized for Good program, which aims to amplify employee engagement in local communities. The program enables the foundation to make donations based on employees’ volunteer hours, contributing up to 100 hours per employee to qualifying organizations. Additionally, the foundation matches 50 cents for every dollar donated by employees, with a cap of $1,500 in match funds per employee for qualifying organizations.

“Being active in my community has always been something I am very passionate about. If I can give back in any capacity, whether through donations or volunteering, I do it. The Avangrid Foundation and the Energized for Good program only help to amplify my volunteer and giving efforts, and I could not be more grateful for that,” said Erica Holland, Manager for Training, Awareness, & Metrics for Corporate Security & Resilience at Avangrid. “Not only do I see the positive impacts in my local community, but I also feel the ripple effect it has on communities throughout our geographically dispersed organization.”
The Energized for Good program is an integral part of the Avangrid Foundation’s broader approach to philanthropy, allowing employees to play an active role in their communities while also supporting causes that matter to them. This initiative further extends the foundation’s ability to contribute to the social, environmental, and cultural initiatives it champions across the nation.
The foundation’s support of both national and local nonprofits in 2024 underscores its commitment to creating equitable, sustainable change. Whether it’s addressing the immediate needs of vulnerable populations, supporting educational initiatives, or advocating for environmental sustainability, the Avangrid Foundation remains dedicated to making a meaningful impact on the communities it serves.
Through its generous contributions and deep partnerships with nonprofit organizations, the Avangrid Foundation continues to work toward building a brighter, more inclusive future. By strategically focusing on its four pillars of giving, the foundation is not only enhancing lives today but also laying the groundwork for sustainable progress well into the future.
