Ameresco Sunel Energy SA Starts Work on Lightsource bp’s 560 MWp ENIPEAS Solar Project in Greece

Ameresco Sunel Energy SA has begun construction on Lightsource bp’s 560 MWp Enipeas solar project in Greece, marking one of Europe’s largest solar installations. This joint venture between Ameresco, Inc., a leader in cleantech integration, and Sunel Group, a top solar PV EPC contractor, aims to advance Greece’s renewable energy goals.

The Enipeas project, located in Larissa and Fthiotida, will be completed in 18 to 24 months. It includes two clusters: the 400 MWp Skopia and the 160 MWp Kalithea, featuring nearly 970,000 photovoltaic modules. Once operational, the project will generate 0.90 TWh of electricity annually, powering 225,000 households and reducing CO2 emissions by 379 kt per year.

Natalia Paraskevopoulou, Lightsource bp’s Head of Country for Greece, emphasized the project’s role in supporting Greece’s decarbonization and energy independence goals, as well as its positive economic impact on the local community.

As the EPC and O&M provider, Ameresco Sunel Energy SA is committed to sustainable practices and local engagement, including hiring local contractors and providing community support. George Sakellaris, CEO of Ameresco, and Konstantinos Zygouras, CEO of Sunel Group, both expressed enthusiasm for the project’s role in advancing renewable energy and boosting the local economy.
