X-Energy, a leader in advanced nuclear reactor and fuel technology, announced a $500 million Series C-1 financing round led by Amazon. This investment will support X-energy’s reactor design, licensing, and the first phase of its TRISO-X fuel fabrication facility in Tennessee. The funds will also back future carbon-free projects using X-energy’s advanced small modular reactors (SMRs).
Amazon and X-energy aim to bring 5 gigawatts of new power projects online by 2039, marking the largest commercial SMR deployment. These projects will help meet growing energy demands, with Amazon committing to a 320-megawatt project in Washington, with potential expansion to 960 MW.
The collaboration seeks to establish a deployment and financing model to advance carbon-free energy solutions. X-energy’s Xe-100 SMRs, designed for scalability and efficiency, will play a key role in powering energy-intensive facilities like Amazon’s data centers, helping the company meet its climate goals.
Supported by the U.S. Department of Energy, X-energy is also building a Xe-100 plant at Dow Inc.’s Texas site, the first grid-scale advanced nuclear reactor serving an industrial site in North America. This plant will provide zero-carbon power and high-temperature steam, advancing clean energy innovation.
