Last night, at the United Way of Calgary and Area’s Community Impact Awards, AltaLink received the 2023 Workplace Excellence Award.
The Workplace Excellence Award honours workplace campaigns that demonstrate industry excellence, exhibiting strong employee engagement, leadership support, and a best-practice approach to their United Way campaign.
“Our Powerful Giving campaign is an opportunity to come together as an organization to support the communities in which we live, work and play,” said Gary Hart, AltaLink’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “This award demonstrates the commitment, innovation, and generous spirit our team has in strengthening our communities. We are honoured to receive this special recognition from the United Way of Calgary and Area.”
AltaLink’s annual employee giving campaign is driven by employees, organized by a committee of representatives from across the company and guided by sponsors from the executive team. Committee chairs complete a four-month secondment with the United Way of Calgary and Area, providing them with a unique perspective of the needs of the organization that they can incorporate into their campaign planning.
With employees spread across different locations in Alberta, AltaLink’s campaign includes a variety of both in-person and virtual activities to give everyone an opportunity to get involved in a way that is meaningful to them.

With all donations matched dollar for dollar by AltaLink’s shareholders, AltaLink raised more than $800,000 in donations to charities across the province in 2023. AltaLink has been holding its Powerful Giving campaign since 2002, and is proud to have raised $11 million over those 21 years to make a difference in the lives of Albertans.
