Accelera Hosts Spanish PM and Industry Leaders at Guadalajara Electrolyzer Plant
Accelera™ by Cummins, the zero-emissions business unit of Cummins Inc., recently welcomed Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and several key government officials to its advanced electrolyzer manufacturing facility in Guadalajara, Castile-La Mancha, Spain. The visit highlighted Accelera’s critical role in driving Spain and the European Union toward a sustainable energy future. Following the Prime Minister’s tour, Accelera convened a meeting with top industry leaders to discuss the growth and opportunities in Spain’s green hydrogen market.
Spain has made substantial progress in its green energy transformation, and green hydrogen is a key element of this transition. The Spanish government has implemented a series of policies that have positioned Spain as a leader in the European green hydrogen sector. These initiatives have been instrumental in enabling Spain to promote 20% of Europe’s green hydrogen projects, marking the country as a key player in the continent’s energy future.
Prime Minister Sánchez toured Accelera’s state-of-the-art 260,000 square foot proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzer manufacturing facility, one of the largest of its kind in Spain. The facility, which began production in April 2024, plays a pivotal role in advancing green hydrogen production. During his visit, Sánchez also met with Accelera employees, recognizing their work in building Spain’s burgeoning green hydrogen economy. The facility’s energy-efficient operations have already created 91 highly skilled jobs, with the potential for more as production continues to scale.
Accelera’s presence in Spain positions the company as one of the country’s leading electrolyzer manufacturers. Spain’s low renewable energy costs make it an ideal location for producing and exporting both hydrogen and electrolyzers, benefiting from the country’s abundant renewable resources. This, in turn, strengthens Spain’s role in Europe’s clean energy transformation.

Accelera’s commitment to green hydrogen technology is demonstrated through its recent announcement of a 100 MW electrolyzer project for bp’s green hydrogen plant in Lingen, Germany. Production for this project is already underway at Accelera’s Guadalajara facility. With a current production capacity of 500 MW, Accelera plans to expand its manufacturing capabilities to 1 GW in the near future. These efforts will contribute to Spain’s growing hydrogen industry, reinforcing the country as a European hub for hydrogen production.
The high-level meeting that followed Prime Minister Sánchez’s visit focused on fostering collaboration within Spain’s green hydrogen sector. Industry leaders discussed ways to accelerate Spain’s progress toward becoming a European hydrogen hub, aligning with the country’s decarbonization goals and those of the European Union. This collaboration is essential for supporting Spain’s ambitious target of reaching 12 GW of electrolyzer capacity, which will play a critical role in the country’s green hydrogen production.
Notably, the discussions emphasized the importance of local electrolyzer production, with Accelera’s Guadalajara plant positioned as a key asset in meeting Spain’s electrolyzer capacity goals. This local manufacturing also strengthens Spain’s industrial base and creates high-quality jobs, which are critical to the country’s energy transition.

As leaders in the clean energy sector, the participants underscored the vital role of electrolyzers in producing green hydrogen from renewable energy sources. Accelera is a recognized leader in large-scale hydrogen production, having deployed over 600 PEM electrolyzer units worldwide. These units power some of the most advanced hydrogen systems globally, including a 20 MW facility in Quebec, Canada, and a 25 MW system in Florida, USA.
