Adapture Renewables, Inc., a developer and operator of utility-scale solar and energy storage projects, has announced the completion and commercial operation of Rivanna Solar, a 14.6 MW solar facility in Charlottesville, Virginia. This marks the company’s first project in the state, operating within Dominion Energy and PJM territories, and represents a strategic expansion into new regions to support clean energy infrastructure in the U.S.
Virginia is experiencing unprecedented power demand growth, driven largely by the rapid expansion of data centers. Rivanna Solar is expected to produce over 21,000 MWh of clean energy annually—enough to power thousands of homes and businesses—while advancing the state’s goal of achieving 100% clean energy.
“Rivanna Solar addresses the surging energy demand from Virginia’s growing data center sector and reinforces our commitment to resilient, sustainable energy solutions,” said Zack Zoller, VP of Engineering, Procurement, and Construction at Adapture Renewables. “Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, this project demonstrates our dedication to delivering impactful renewable energy initiatives that benefit local communities.”
Supported by the Inflation Reduction Act, the project highlights collaboration with local contractors, the Charlottesville community, and the landowner. It is projected to contribute over $2 million in state and local taxes during its operational life and created more than 150 local jobs during development and construction.
Once the solar farm completes its operational term, the land will return to timber farming, benefiting from decades of natural rejuvenation.
Adapture Renewables leverages its expertise and comprehensive in-house capabilities—including development, EPC management, legal, and project finance services—to bring utility-scale projects from concept to operation.
