Iberdrola’s Offshore Wind Projects to Bring €3 Billion to Basque Companies

Iberdrola’s Executive Chairman, Ignacio Galán, met with Lehendakari Imanol Pradales in Vitoria-Gasteiz, at the Basque Government headquarters. The meeting is part of ongoing discussions between Iberdrola’s leadership and Basque authorities.

During the meeting, Galán reiterated Iberdrola’s strong commitment to the Basque Country, highlighting significant contracts with local suppliers for offshore wind projects recently secured in the UK and the US. These projects, including East Anglia 2 (963 MW) and New England Wind 1 (791 MW), represent a combined investment of over €10 billion. Orders worth €1.6 billion have already been placed with companies like Siemens Gamesa and Euskal Forging, while advanced negotiations are underway for an additional €1.5 billion in contracts with Basque firms.

Iberdrola’s collaborations have long supported Basque industry, boosting international competitiveness and creating quality jobs. Examples include Euskal Forging’s offshore wind farm components, Jema Energy and Ingeteam’s battery system integration for photovoltaic plants, and Ingeteam Indar Machines’ stators for Villarino.

In 2023, Iberdrola’s economic impact in the Basque Country reached 3.7% of the region’s GDP, driven by investments, purchases, salaries, and tax contributions. The company’s procurement from 500 local suppliers supported 30,000 jobs, in addition to Iberdrola’s 1,800 direct employees, according to a PricewaterhouseCoopers report.
