ADNOC Gas Leverages 3D Printing for On-Demand Production of Critical Replacement Components

ADNOC Gas has established one of the energy industry’s largest digital libraries for critical components, enabling on-demand manufacturing using advanced 3D printing technology. The digital warehouse currently holds over 3,500 scanned items, with the initiative expected to bring ADNOC Gas $50 million in benefits by 2028.

By utilizing 3D printing, ADNOC Gas can quickly produce high-quality components, ensuring uninterrupted operations and aligning with the company’s broader strategy to adopt advanced technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) to maximize value. The process, known as additive manufacturing, has cut production lead times by 50%, reducing operational downtime and enhancing inventory flexibility to meet market demands.

Immensa, a UAE-based leader in additive manufacturing and digital warehousing, supplies the 3D printing technology, which has been used to produce critical replacement parts at ADNOC Gas’s Das Island and Habshan gas processing facilities. This approach eliminates the need for overseas shipping, reduces CO2 emissions, and significantly decreases on-site inventory.

Dr. Ahmed Alebri, CEO of ADNOC Gas, stated, “3D printing offers a cutting-edge digital solution for component design and production, optimizing our supply chain, improving performance, and lowering costs. It allows for the creation of complex geometries that are unattainable with traditional methods. By pioneering the integration of additive manufacturing into our operations, we are driving operational excellence and delivering exceptional value to our stakeholders.”

At Das Island, ADNOC Gas successfully used 3D printing to replace air compressor impellers, demonstrating the technology’s capability for complex, high-value rotating parts. At the Habshan site, hundreds of components have been scanned and digitally stored, ready for on-demand printing using polymer or metal materials.

ADNOC Gas’s adoption of 3D printing paves the way for further innovations within the company. It is exploring on-site 3D manufacturing to optimize operations and lower emissions, while also partnering with Immensa to tailor 3D printing solutions for the energy sector.

As a leader in innovation, ADNOC Gas leverages big data analytics, supercomputing, and AI to enhance operational efficiency and sustainability, delivering greater value to shareholders. The company expects AI to contribute $400 million annually over the next five years, complementing its advanced digital strategies, including 3D printing.
