Xcel Energy has announced the appointment of Todd Wehner as the company’s new treasurer and vice president. Paul Johnson will continue his role as vice president of treasury and investor relations.
“Todd is a proven financial leader who has demonstrated an ability to identify opportunities, develop strategies, and deliver results,” said Bob Frenzel, chairman, president, and CEO of Xcel Energy. “His extensive experience in treasury and utilities, combined with his expertise in strategic management and capital markets, will greatly benefit Xcel Energy’s customers.”
In his new position, Wehner will oversee the company’s financial stability by managing capital investment funding, cash functions, insurance processes, investment activities, and capital structure. He will also support regulatory proceedings. His focus on cost-effective capital raising for grid and energy investments will help provide long-term, lower-cost energy solutions for customers.
“Xcel Energy is leading the clean energy transition, and I’m excited by the opportunity to navigate the complexities of its multiple operating companies across diverse states,” said Wehner. “Having grown up with a father who was a career lineworker, I’ve always viewed a career in the utility sector as a noble mission that serves communities with the energy they depend on.”
Prior to joining Xcel Energy, Wehner was the assistant treasurer at CMS Energy, where he optimized the company’s capital structure and managed relationships with equity and debt providers, as well as credit rating agencies. He also held investment banking roles at Morgan Stanley and Barclays, focusing on the global utilities and chemicals industries. Wehner started his career as a U.S. Air Force officer, flight test engineer, and project manager, serving both domestically and in Iraq.
Wehner holds master’s degrees in sustainable systems and business administration from the University of Michigan, along with bachelor’s degrees in electrical and mechanical engineering from Michigan Technological University.
