Paired Power, a leading U.S. manufacturer of solar microgrid electric vehicle chargers, has installed its PairTree EV charger for Sonoco (NYSE: SON), a global leader in consumer, industrial, healthcare, and protective packaging.
“We’re thrilled to provide Sonoco with the first off-grid electric vehicle solar charger, reflecting their commitment to reducing emissions through recyclable materials and various sustainability initiatives,” said Tom McCalmont, CEO of Paired Power. “The PairTree charger supports Sonoco’s efforts to offer truly green charging solutions for their staff.”
The PairTree charger can operate as a standalone solar power unit or integrate with a microgrid and optional grid connection. This U.S.-made solar canopy combines battery storage with solar power, allowing for electric vehicle charging both day and night.
In addition to providing resilient electricity, PairTree offers emergency backup power during grid outages and reduces reliance on the grid. Unlike traditional grid chargers, which rely on non-renewable energy and involve lengthy permitting processes, PairTree requires minimal permitting and can be installed in under a day.
Designed for durability, PairTree is wind-rated up to 130 mph, making it suitable for regions with unpredictable weather, such as South Carolina. It fits into a standard 9 x 18 foot parking space, features no moving parts, and requires minimal maintenance compared to traditional tracker systems. PairTree provides one or two Level 2 EV charging ports with the industry-standard J1772 interface.
“Paired Power’s solar off-grid car charging technology is an ideal solution for providing resilient and clean energy to our employees who drive electric vehicles,” said Elizabeth Rhue, Vice President of Sustainability at Sonoco. “The PairTree’s simplicity, effectiveness, and sleek design align perfectly with our company’s sustainability mission.”
