Stem Deploys PowerTrack Platform at Energix’s 152 MWdc Border Basin Solar Project
Stem, Inc. (NYSE: STEM), a global provider of artificial intelligence-enabled clean energy software and services, has announced the successful deployment of its PowerTrack™ Platform at Border Basin Solar, a utility-scale solar energy project owned and developed by Energix US, LLC. The 152-megawatt direct current (MWdc) facility, equivalent to 120 megawatts alternating current (MWac), is now operational and delivering renewable electricity into the PJM Interconnection market.
The project represents an important addition to Energix’s growing renewable energy portfolio in the United States. It also demonstrates the role of integrated power plant control, monitoring and analytics technologies in supporting the operation of large-scale solar facilities. Through the deployment, Stem provided engineering, equipment preparation, system integration, commissioning and technical support services to help bring Border Basin Solar into commercial operation.
Stem worked with Energix throughout the project’s development and implementation process, beginning with conceptual design and continuing through factory preparation, commissioning and the final handoff to the facility’s operators. The company combined several technical activities to establish the plant’s control and monitoring infrastructure before the solar facility became operational.
The implementation process included upfront engineering and system configuration, panel shop assembly, pre-configuration of equipment, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), on-site commissioning and utility witness testing. These activities were supported by remote technical assistance and coordination with the project team. The approach enabled Stem to prepare and validate key systems before deployment at the site, helping establish operational visibility from the beginning of the facility’s commercial activities.
By completing the engineering and preparation work ahead of commissioning, Stem supported the integration of the different components required for the solar plant’s control, communications and monitoring functions. The company’s involvement continued through on-site testing and the transition to the operations team, providing technical support throughout the process.
Following commissioning, Stem’s PowerTrack Platform serves as the central power plant control, data acquisition and monitoring backbone for Border Basin Solar. The system brings together several operational components, allowing the facility’s team to monitor plant conditions, review performance information and manage important operating functions through an integrated technology environment.
Stem’s project scope included PJMnet integration, power plant controls, local supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), communications and networking hardware, and meteorological stations. The company also deployed its PowerTrack software to provide cloud-based monitoring, performance analytics, operational alerts, reporting capabilities and remote data backup.
These systems are designed to support the collection and management of information from across the solar facility. Power plant controls provide the infrastructure needed to coordinate operating functions, while the local SCADA system enables the collection and communication of equipment and plant-level data. Communications and networking hardware connect the different components, supporting the movement of information between the facility and its monitoring systems.
Meteorological stations contribute environmental information that can help operators understand the conditions affecting solar generation. When combined with operational data, this information provides additional context for evaluating plant performance and identifying potential operating issues.
The cloud-based PowerTrack software adds another layer of visibility by organizing operational information and making performance data accessible to the relevant teams. Its analytics, alerting and reporting functions are intended to help operators track plant activity, review performance trends and respond to conditions that may require attention. Remote data backup also supports the preservation and availability of important operational information.
For utility-scale renewable energy developers, the transition from construction to commercial operation is an important stage in a project’s lifecycle. However, maintaining consistent production and managing operational performance over the long term require reliable control infrastructure, accurate data and ongoing technical support.
Matt Tappin, President of Software at Stem, said that successfully bringing a renewable energy project online is only one part of the process for utility-scale developers. He emphasized that long-term performance depends on reliable operations, clear visibility into asset performance and access to appropriate technical assistance.
Tappin said Stem was pleased to support Energix as the company continues expanding its solar portfolio and works to maximize the performance and long-term value of its renewable energy assets. He also highlighted the importance of providing developers and operators with the technology and support required to manage their facilities after commissioning.
For Energix, Border Basin Solar marks a significant milestone in its expansion across the United States. The project contributes to the company’s growing portfolio in the PJM market, which serves a broad electricity network across multiple regions. Energix has continued developing renewable energy assets as part of its broader strategy to expand its presence in the American clean energy sector.
Zvi Tvizer, Country Manager and Chief Operating Officer at Energix Renewables, said Border Basin represents an important achievement for the company as its U.S. portfolio surpasses 1 gigawatt (GW) in the PJM market.
Tvizer noted that Stem’s PowerTrack Platform provides Energix’s operations team with real-time visibility and performance information needed to support the facility’s operation. He said the platform will help the company maximize electricity production while maintaining reliable, long-term performance at the solar installation.
The milestone reflects Energix’s continued development activity in the U.S. renewable energy market and the importance of operational technology in managing an expanding portfolio of utility-scale projects. As developers add more generating capacity, integrated monitoring and control systems can provide the operational information needed to oversee multiple assets and support effective decision-making.
The successful deployment at Border Basin also highlights Stem’s role in providing software and technical services across different stages of renewable energy project implementation. By combining engineering, hardware preparation, system integration, commissioning and cloud-based monitoring, the company supported Energix from the initial design stage through the transition to ongoing plant operations.
With Border Basin Solar now operational, Energix has added a 152 MWdc solar facility to its U.S. portfolio, while Stem’s PowerTrack Platform provides the control and monitoring infrastructure supporting the project’s operations. The installation is now delivering clean electricity into the PJM Interconnection market, marking another step in the continued expansion of utility-scale solar generation and digital energy management capabilities in the United States.
