SLB OneSubsea Wins Major Rovuma Basin Contract
Global energy technology company SLB has announced that its OneSubsea joint venture has been awarded a major contract by ExxonMobil Moçambique, Limitada, on behalf of its Area 4 partners, to deliver subsea production systems for the first phase of the offshore Rovuma LNG project in Mozambique.
The award represents an important step in the development of the Rovuma Basin’s deepwater resources and will see SLB OneSubsea provide a range of subsea technologies and services required to support offshore production. The Area 4 partnership includes ENH, CNPC, ENI, KOGAS and XRG, alongside ExxonMobil Moçambique, which is responsible for operations associated with the development.
Under the contract, SLB OneSubsea will deliver subsea trees, manifolds, umbilicals and associated control systems for the first phase of the Rovuma LNG development. The equipment and services are designed to support the safe and efficient production of natural gas from the deepwater field and its subsequent integration into the broader LNG development.
The scope extends across multiple stages of project execution. SLB OneSubsea will provide engineering, procurement and manufacturing services, as well as installation support. By combining equipment supply with engineering and field services, the company will contribute to the delivery of an integrated subsea production system tailored to the requirements of the offshore development.
Deepwater projects such as Rovuma LNG require specialized subsea infrastructure capable of operating reliably in challenging offshore environments. Subsea trees are used to control and manage production from individual wells, while manifolds collect and distribute production flows. Umbilicals provide power, communications and hydraulic control between surface facilities and subsea equipment, while control systems enable operators to monitor and manage subsea operations.
SLB OneSubsea said its involvement builds on its experience in supplying subsea systems for complex deepwater developments around the world. The company will apply its engineering capabilities and subsea technology portfolio to support the first phase of the Rovuma LNG project.

Establishing a local services presence could also contribute to the development of Mozambique’s technical workforce. According to SLB OneSubsea, the facility will create opportunities for local training and employment while supporting the growth of regional supply chains. Such infrastructure can provide a foundation for developing technical capabilities associated with subsea engineering, equipment maintenance, offshore services and project support.
The planned services base is therefore intended to serve both the immediate requirements of the Rovuma LNG development and potential future activity in the region. The Rovuma Basin has emerged as a significant natural gas development area, with offshore resources supporting Mozambique’s ambitions to expand its role in the global LNG market.
