Aramco Signs Long-Term Unconventional Gas Contract with Halliburton

Halliburton Secures Multi-Year Aramco Contract to Advance Saudi Arabia’s Unconventional Gas Development

Halliburton has been awarded a significant multi-year contract by Saudi energy giant Aramco to provide integrated stimulation and completion services for unconventional gas projects across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The agreement forms part of a broader multi-billion-dollar development initiative aimed at accelerating one of the largest unconventional gas programs in the world and reinforcing Saudi Arabia’s ambitions to become a major producer of non-conventional natural gas resources.

The contract represents another major milestone in the long-standing relationship between Halliburton and Aramco, a partnership that has spanned more than eight decades. Through this latest award, Halliburton will continue supporting Saudi Arabia’s efforts to unlock vast unconventional gas reserves while introducing advanced digital technologies and intelligent automation solutions designed to improve efficiency, optimize production, and enhance operational reliability.

Saudi Arabia has increasingly focused on unconventional gas development as part of its broader energy diversification strategy. The Kingdom is seeking to expand domestic gas production to meet growing power demand, support industrial development, reduce reliance on liquid fuels for electricity generation, and free additional crude oil volumes for export. Large-scale unconventional gas resources, particularly in the Jafurah Basin, are expected to play a central role in achieving these objectives.

Halliburton has established itself as one of the leading service providers in Saudi Arabia’s unconventional sector by delivering an integrated portfolio of drilling, completion, stimulation, and production technologies. The company’s comprehensive service model is designed specifically to support high-intensity development programs that require large-scale execution capabilities and advanced operational coordination.

The newly awarded contract further expands Halliburton’s participation in Aramco’s unconventional gas initiatives. The company will provide a range of integrated solutions aimed at increasing operational efficiency, improving workflow predictability, and ensuring reliable execution across multi-well development campaigns. By combining advanced technologies with local expertise and supply chain capabilities, Halliburton intends to support the rapid scaling of unconventional production activities in the Kingdom.

According to Halliburton executives, the award highlights the strong collaboration between the two companies and demonstrates confidence in the company’s ability to deliver innovative solutions in complex unconventional environments.

Rami Yassine, President of Halliburton’s Eastern Hemisphere operations, emphasized the significance of the contract and the company’s long-standing presence in Saudi Arabia. He noted that Halliburton’s relationship with Aramco has evolved over more than 80 years and that the new agreement further strengthens cooperation in advancing unconventional gas development within the Kingdom.

Beginning in the third quarter of 2026, Halliburton plans to deploy Saudi Arabia’s first fully integrated intelligent fracturing platform. The deployment will include the company’s OCTIV® Auto Frac technology and Sensori™ fracture monitoring services, representing a major step toward digital transformation in the Kingdom’s upstream sector.

The OCTIV Auto Frac platform utilizes intelligent automation technologies that enable real-time optimization of hydraulic fracturing operations. Through advanced analytics and automated control systems, the platform can continuously monitor field conditions and adjust operational parameters to maximize efficiency and improve well performance.

The implementation of intelligent fracturing technologies is expected to provide several benefits, including reduced nonproductive time, improved consistency across multi-well developments, enhanced equipment utilization, and greater operational transparency. Such capabilities are increasingly important as unconventional developments become larger and more complex.

Complementing the automated fracturing platform, Halliburton’s Sensori fracture monitoring services provide real-time insights into subsurface fracture behavior during stimulation activities. By delivering detailed data on fracture propagation and reservoir response, these monitoring systems help operators make informed decisions that can improve recovery rates and optimize field development strategies.

The integration of these digital technologies aligns with broader industry trends toward automation, data analytics, and intelligent field operations. Oil and gas operators worldwide are increasingly adopting digital solutions to improve efficiency, lower costs, and maximize the value of unconventional assets.

Saudi Arabia’s unconventional gas development efforts have gained significant momentum in recent years, particularly within the Jafurah Basin. Located in the Eastern Province, Jafurah is considered one of the largest liquid-rich unconventional gas fields in the region and is expected to become a major contributor to the Kingdom’s future energy mix.

Development activities in the basin are already underway, with extensive drilling, completion, and infrastructure construction programs progressing across the field. Once fully developed, Jafurah is expected to significantly increase domestic gas supplies and support downstream industries, including petrochemicals, power generation, hydrogen production, and other energy-intensive sectors.

As activity in the basin accelerates, Halliburton is preparing to expand its operational footprint in Saudi Arabia. The company announced plans to increase investment in local manufacturing capabilities, strengthen its supply chain infrastructure, and expand workforce development initiatives across the Kingdom.

These investments align closely with Saudi Arabia’s localization objectives and Vision 2030 strategy, which aims to increase local content, create employment opportunities, and build advanced industrial capabilities within the country. By enhancing domestic manufacturing and developing local talent, Halliburton intends to support the long-term sustainability of unconventional gas operations while contributing to broader economic diversification efforts.

The company’s workforce development programs are expected to focus on training and upskilling Saudi professionals in advanced oilfield technologies, digital operations, and unconventional resource development. Building local expertise will be critical as the Kingdom expands its unconventional gas activities and seeks to establish itself as a global leader in the sector.

The multi-year contract also underscores the growing importance of natural gas in global energy strategies. As countries seek lower-carbon energy solutions while maintaining energy security, natural gas continues to play a vital role in supporting industrial growth and power generation. Unconventional gas resources, enabled by advanced drilling and completion technologies, are increasingly becoming an essential component of future energy systems.

For Halliburton, the award reinforces its position as a leading technology and services provider in the Middle East and highlights the strategic importance of Saudi Arabia within the company’s global portfolio. The contract not only expands Halliburton’s presence in one of the world’s largest energy markets but also provides an opportunity to demonstrate the value of intelligent automation and digital innovation in large-scale unconventional developments.

As Saudi Arabia moves forward with its ambitious plans for unconventional gas production, partnerships between operators and technology providers will remain essential in delivering efficient, reliable, and economically competitive projects. Through advanced fracturing technologies, integrated service offerings, and continued investment in local capabilities, Halliburton is positioned to play a significant role in shaping the next phase of the Kingdom’s energy transformation.
