LS Cable & System USA to Invest $50 Million in Tarboro, North Carolina Expansion

LS Cable & System USA Announces $50 Million Tarboro Expansion to Strengthen U.S. Energy Infrastructure

LS Cable & System USA, Inc. (LSCUS), the U.S.-based subsidiary of LS Cable & System Ltd. (LS C&S), has announced a $50 million investment to expand its manufacturing facility in Tarboro, North Carolina. The project reinforces the company’s strategy to localize advanced manufacturing in the United States, strengthen domestic supply chains, and support the growing demands of the nation’s energy infrastructure.

Major Capacity Expansion in Tarboro

The investment will fund the installation of two additional Continuous Catenary Vulcanization (CCV) production lines at the Tarboro plant. These new lines will significantly increase the company’s capacity to produce medium-voltage power distribution cables—key components for utilities, renewable energy projects, data centers, and industrial facilities across North America.

In addition to boosting manufacturing output, the expansion will create new employment opportunities. The facility’s workforce is expected to grow from approximately 250 employees to 335, providing a meaningful economic boost to Edgecombe County and the surrounding region.

Strong Support from Federal, State, and Local Leaders

The announcement has drawn strong support from officials at multiple levels of government, who highlighted the project’s economic and strategic importance.

North Carolina Governor Josh Stein described the investment as a sign of confidence in the state’s workforce and business climate, noting that North Carolina is home to the largest manufacturing workforce in the Southeast.

State Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley emphasized that the project will strengthen the state’s advanced manufacturing sector, support critical energy infrastructure, and create opportunities for rural communities.

At the federal level, U.S. Senator Thom Tillis called the expansion a major step toward building a more resilient domestic supply chain while creating good-paying jobs. U.S. Senator Ted Budd also praised the project, describing LS Cable & System as an important contributor to eastern North Carolina’s economy and infrastructure.

U.S. Congressman Don Davis highlighted the role of such investments in meeting rising industrial energy demand nationwide, while state and local leaders—including North Carolina Senator Kandie Smith, Representative Shelly Willingham, and Tarboro Mayor Tate Mayo—pointed to the project’s positive impact on job creation, tax revenue, and long-term community growth.

Strategic Investment in a Growing Market

LS Cable & System executives emphasized that the Tarboro expansion is part of a broader global strategy focused on electrification, grid modernization, and the energy transition.

Bon-Kyu Koo, President and CEO of LS Cable & System Ltd., said the investment reflects the company’s long-term vision to expand its global manufacturing footprint while localizing production in key strategic markets. He noted that accelerating electrification and energy transition trends worldwide are driving the need for reliable cable manufacturing capacity.

Gisu Kim, Regional President for North America, described the region as one of the company’s most important growth markets. He said the Tarboro expansion will strengthen the company’s manufacturing base, improve supply chain resilience, and enable faster response to increasing demand across utilities, renewable energy, and industrial sectors.

Jeong Hyeon, President and CEO of Gaon Cable Co.—the parent company of LSCUS and a subsidiary of LS C&S—added that the new CCV capacity will help ensure reliable delivery of high-quality power distribution solutions to customers across North America.

Taewon Son, President and CEO of LS Cable & System USA, said the expansion will allow the company to scale its medium-voltage manufacturing capabilities while maintaining high product standards. He noted that the Tarboro facility already has a strong operational foundation, and the new lines will enable the company to grow alongside its customers and support critical infrastructure projects nationwide.

Patrick Y. Shim, Managing Director of LS Cable & System Ltd., highlighted the company’s commitment to the local community, emphasizing its long-term partnerships with regional institutions and workforce development initiatives.

Part of a Broader North American Investment Strategy

The Tarboro project is one of several major investments LS Cable & System and its subsidiaries have announced across North America in recent months.

In April 2025, LS GreenLink USA broke ground on Phase 1 of a large-scale cable manufacturing complex in Chesapeake, Virginia. The project includes a 750,000-square-foot advanced manufacturing facility, a 660-foot Vertical Continuous Vulcanization (VCV) tower, and a dedicated pier to support high-voltage direct current (HVDC) submarine cable production. The development is expected to create more than 330 jobs.

In December 2025, the company announced another major investment in Chesapeake, representing the largest capital project in the history of the Hampton Roads region. The expansion is expected to generate approximately 430 jobs while adding capabilities in copper recycling, magnet wire manufacturing, and rare-earth magnet production.

In January 2026, LS Cable & System USA announced a new logistics center in La Porte, Texas, to support its growing busduct business across North America.

During the same month, LS Cable & System Mexico announced investments in Querétaro to expand busduct production capacity for AI-driven data center demand and large-scale power infrastructure, while also adding new automotive cable production lines for both internal combustion and electric vehicle platforms.

Strengthening the Domestic Supply Chain

With electrification trends accelerating and infrastructure demands rising, LS Cable & System’s latest investment is aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities. The company expects the Tarboro expansion to improve supply chain resilience while solidifying its role as a key supplier of medium-voltage power cables in the U.S. market.

LS Cable & System has indicated that it plans to continue investing across North America throughout 2026, building on its ongoing commitment to advanced manufacturing, resilient supply chains, and the modernization of the continent’s energy infrastructure.
