TotalEnergies and Aljomaih Energy & Water Awarded 400 MW Solar Project in Saudi Arabia
In a major step forward for Saudi Arabia’s clean energy ambitions, a consortium comprising France’s TotalEnergies (Paris: TTE) (LSE: TTE) (NYSE: TTE) and Saudi developer Aljomaih Energy & Water Company (AEW) has been officially awarded the contract to develop, build, and operate a 400-megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant in As Sufun, located in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). The project was granted by the Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) following a competitive tender process under the National Renewable Energy Program (NREP), overseen by the Saudi Ministry of Energy.
A Milestone for Saudi Renewable Expansion
The As Sufun Solar Project marks a significant milestone in Saudi Arabia’s transition toward cleaner and more sustainable sources of power. The electricity generated from the project will be sold to SPPC under a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), ensuring stable long-term revenue and energy supply. Once operational in 2027, the plant is expected to supply renewable power to more than 68,400 homes in the region, substantially reducing the reliance on conventional fossil fuels for electricity generation.
This initiative is part of Round 6 of the National Renewable Energy Program, which aligns with the Saudi Vision 2030 framework — the Kingdom’s roadmap for economic diversification, sustainability, and environmental stewardship. A central goal of Vision 2030 is to increase the share of renewable energy sources, including solar and wind, to up to 50% of the total installed capacity by 2030, depending on electricity demand growth. The program aims to reduce the country’s dependence on liquid fuels for power generation and promote large-scale investment in clean energy technologies.
