38 Degrees North Secures EIG Debt Facility for Community Solar Growth

38 Degrees North Secures EIG Debt Facility to Accelerate Community Solar Growth

38 Degrees North, a community solar and distributed renewable energy platform, has secured a new debt facility from EIG, a global institutional investor focused on energy and infrastructure. The financing is designed to strengthen the company’s ability to acquire renewable energy projects, advance late-stage developments and expand its growing portfolio of distributed energy assets.

The transaction provides 38 Degrees North with additional capital flexibility at a time when demand for community solar and decentralized power generation is increasing across the United States. The company said the facility will support its development pipeline and near-term acquisition opportunities, while also providing the ability to expand financing capacity as additional projects and investment opportunities emerge.

The new debt facility represents another significant milestone in 38 Degrees North’s expansion strategy. The company said its total growth capital raised to date has now surpassed $300 million, combining the latest financing with previous equity investments from Climate Adaptive Infrastructure, Kimmeridge and existing investor S2G Investments.

The additional capital comes as the electricity sector faces a combination of structural challenges that are increasing interest in distributed energy resources. Rapid growth in electricity consumption from artificial intelligence, data centers and other high-demand applications is putting additional pressure on power systems. At the same time, aging grid infrastructure, extreme weather events and rising electricity costs are creating greater demand for localized energy generation and resilient power resources.

Community solar can play an important role in addressing these challenges by enabling electricity generation closer to consumers and reducing reliance on centralized generation and transmission infrastructure. Distributed renewable energy projects can also provide customers with opportunities to reduce electricity costs while helping communities access additional clean energy capacity.

For 38 Degrees North, the new financing is expected to support the company’s ability to move projects through various stages of development and into construction and operation. The company has been building a portfolio focused on community solar and distributed renewable energy assets, targeting opportunities where localized generation can provide economic and grid-related benefits.

Ryan Bennett, Partner at 38 Degrees North, said the new investment will enhance the company’s ability to execute on its development-stage and construction-ready portfolio while allowing it to pursue additional opportunities.

According to Bennett, the partnership with EIG represents more than a source of financing. He described EIG as an experienced and thoughtful investor whose commitment provides validation of 38 Degrees North’s business model, execution capabilities and position as an independent power producer operating in the middle market.

The partnership also gives 38 Degrees North additional financial resources to respond to changing market conditions. Renewable energy development requires significant capital across multiple stages, from project acquisition and development through construction and eventual operation. Flexible debt capital can allow developers to manage these stages more efficiently while maintaining the ability to pursue new opportunities.

The timing of the transaction is particularly significant for the distributed energy sector. Electricity demand is undergoing a period of rapid transformation, driven by electrification, industrial expansion and the increasing power requirements of digital infrastructure. AI-related computing and data center development have emerged as major sources of new electricity demand, creating pressure on utilities and grid operators to expand generation and transmission capacity.

At the same time, large-scale grid investments can require lengthy development timelines and substantial capital. Distributed renewable energy resources can provide an alternative approach by adding generation capacity closer to demand centers. Community solar projects can also expand access to renewable electricity for customers who may not have suitable rooftops or the ability to install individual solar systems.

38 Degrees North is positioning its platform to benefit from these market trends. By combining project development, acquisitions and portfolio expansion, the company aims to increase its presence in a distributed energy market that is becoming increasingly important to the broader energy transition.

The company’s latest financing follows an equity investment announced in July 2025 involving Climate Adaptive Infrastructure, Kimmeridge and S2G Investments. That investment provided additional support for 38 Degrees North’s growth strategy and helped establish a broader capital base for expanding its renewable energy activities.

With the EIG facility now in place, the company has access to another source of capital as it evaluates new projects and advances assets already in its pipeline. The facility is also structured to provide room for expansion, allowing financing capacity to grow alongside the company’s portfolio and investment opportunities.

EIG said its investment reflects its continued strategy of providing flexible capital solutions to established energy transition platforms and infrastructure businesses. The firm views experienced management teams and scalable renewable energy platforms as important components of the transition toward a more resilient and lower-carbon electricity system.

Shalin Parikh, Head of Energy Transition, Americas at EIG, said the firm was pleased to partner with 38 Degrees North, describing the company as an established developer and asset aggregator with significant experience in distributed solar.

Parikh said the transaction reflects EIG’s commitment to supporting experienced management teams and investing in energy transition infrastructure capable of addressing growing electricity demand. EIG also believes that 38 Degrees North has developed a differentiated platform that is positioned for further expansion.

The investment comes amid growing institutional interest in renewable infrastructure that can provide both clean generation and practical grid benefits. Distributed solar and community solar projects can offer investors exposure to long-term energy infrastructure while addressing rising demand for additional generation resources.

For 38 Degrees North, the ability to combine equity and debt capital could provide greater flexibility as the company moves projects through development and construction. The financing may also allow the platform to accelerate acquisitions when attractive opportunities become available.

The company’s strategy is centered on expanding decentralized energy resources at a time when the electricity system is undergoing significant change. Increasing power demand, grid constraints and the need for greater resilience are creating opportunities for renewable energy developers that can deliver generation close to customers.

Community solar is particularly relevant because it allows multiple customers to benefit from a shared solar installation rather than requiring each participant to own or install a system. This model can broaden access to renewable energy while supporting additional distributed generation capacity.

As electricity demand continues to grow, the need for flexible and scalable energy infrastructure is expected to remain a major focus for utilities, developers and investors. The combination of renewable generation, distributed resources and energy storage could increasingly become part of strategies designed to improve grid reliability and meet new sources of demand.

The new EIG debt facility therefore represents an important step in 38 Degrees North’s broader growth plans. With more than $300 million in total growth capital raised to date, the company has strengthened its financial position and expanded its ability to pursue development, acquisitions and construction opportunities.

As the distributed renewable energy market continues to evolve, 38 Degrees North intends to use the additional capital to advance its existing pipeline while evaluating new projects. The partnership with EIG provides the company with additional financial capacity and an institutional investment partner as it works to expand its community solar and distributed energy portfolio.

The transaction underscores the growing role of distributed renewable energy in the evolving U.S. power market. With electricity demand increasing and grid infrastructure facing mounting challenges, platforms capable of deploying localized renewable generation are positioned to play an increasingly important role in meeting future energy needs while supporting customers, communities and broader grid resilience.
